The Virginia, Maryland and Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives has an Education Scholarship Foundation that may award a $1,000 scholarship to a student who has been accepted into the Power Line Worker Training School at Southside Virginia Community College. The students had to have met the requirements of the College to include: work history, personal references, drug screen and DOT physical, provided high school transcript or GED certificate and assurance of some physical requirements.
To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant must:
1. Have a high school diploma or Official GED Certificate.
2. Occupy a primary residence that receives its electric power from a VA, MD or DE Electric Cooperative. Visit: https://vmdaec.com/vmdaec-member-cooperative-service-territories/ for a list of the 16 qualifying electric cooperatives.
3. Be enrolled in the SVCC Power Line Worker Training Program.
4. Demonstrate financial need by providing the Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) reported by parent or legal guardian on IRS Income Tax return.
5. Submit the following documents:
a. A copy of your high school transcript and/or diploma or a copy of Official GED Certificate;
b. A copy of the most recent electric bill for your primary residence; and
c. Complete and sign the Scholarship Application form.
6. We will verify your enrollment in the PLW Training Program directly from SVCC PLWS. By applying for this scholarship, you authorize us to do this.
